Ordering Details Depending on your production date, you may have one of two different taillight harnesses.

Ford started changing the taillight harness in late 2005. There were a mix of the two types in 2005 and 2006. Now the change looks complete on the 2007 + models.  All newer Mustangs use the TYPE 2 harness.  You must purchase the TYPE 2 kit for your newer car.

To purchase the correct kit, you need to know what color taillight sockets you have. You can tell by looking behind your trunk liner at the taillight harness where it comes from the taillight rubber grommet (where it plugs into the rest of the car's harness). The socket will either be round and taped up from the grommet to the plug or be flat and have separated wires from the grommet to the plug. The picture above will help you determine which style harness you have.
